Developmental Biology: Vasculogenesis is a Wreck Without RECK
نویسندگان
چکیده
The unique membrane-associated inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinases, RECK, is required for vascular maturation during embryogenesis. The phenotype of a loss of function mutation of RECK shows the importance of pericellular proteolysis in development.

Coronary vessel development: a unique form of vasculogenesis.
Development of the coronary vascular system is an interesting model in developmental biology with major implications for the clinical setting. Although coronary vessel development is a form of vasculogenesis followed by angiogenesis, this system uses several unique developmental processes not observed in the formation of other blood vessels. This review summarizes the literature that describes ...
متن کاملSignal transduction in vasculogenesis and developmental angiogenesis.
The vasculature is a highly specialized organ that functions in a number of key physiological tasks including the transport of oxygen and nutrients to tissues. Formation of the vascular system is an essential and rate-limiting step in development and occurs primarily through two main mechanisms, vasculogenesis and angiogenesis. Both vasculogenesis, the de novo formation of vessels, and angiogen...
متن کاملCell elongation is key to in silico replication of in vitro vasculogenesis and subsequent remodeling.
Vasculogenesis, the de novo growth of the primary vascular network from initially dispersed endothelial cells, is the first step in the development of the circulatory system in vertebrates. In the first stages of vasculogenesis, endothelial cells elongate and form a network-like structure, called the primary capillary plexus, which subsequently remodels, with the size of the vacancies between r...
متن کاملDefects in yolk sac vasculogenesis, chorioallantoic fusion, and embryonic axis elongation in mice with targeted disruption of Yap65.
YAP is a multifunctional adapter protein and transcriptional coactivator with several binding partners well described in vitro and in cell culture. To explore in vivo requirements for YAP, we generated mice carrying a targeted disruption of the Yap gene. Homozygosity for the Yap(tm1Smil) allele (Yap-/-) caused developmental arrest around E8.5. Phenotypic characterization revealed a requirement ...
متن کاملVasculogenesis and angiogenesis in the mouse embryo studied using quail/mouse chimeras.
Using quail/chick chimeras, we have previously shown that different embryonic territories are vascularized through two distinct mecanisms, angiogenesis and vasculogenesis. Angiogenesis occurs in tissues of somatopleural origin, vasculogenesis occurs in territories of splanchnopleural origin. The aim of this work was to establish if these modes of vascularization were conserved in the mammalian ...
